AWTT-patented Hexagonal modular NSF/ANSI food-grade option

What is a floating cover?

A floating cover is a buoyant surface placed on an open water body to reduce evaporation, suppress algae, contain odour, and retain heat. The hexagonal modular variant — invented and patented by AWTT — packs at 99% effective surface coverage (AWTT-published), deploys without anchors, and tolerates irregular shorelines. Why pond-cover.com?

pond-cover.com is the technology-authority microsite for the patented hexagonal floating cover platform — covering the engineering, the patent history, and the deep product reference. For the commercial side — EU country pages, procurement guides, lead times, and quoting — visit eurocovers.eu.

The products

  • Hexprotect® AQUA — AWTT's pre-ballasted workhorse. 99% coverage, 130+ MPH wind, 25+ year life, NSF/ANSI food-grade option.
  • Hexofloat® — EuroCover's EU-manufactured, AWTT-design-approved hexagonal cover. 190 mm tile, 75 MPH wind, 15-year life, 3–6 week EU lead time.

Frequently asked questions

What is a hexagonal floating cover? #
A hexagonal floating cover is a modular self-ballasting tile that tessellates over a water body to suppress evaporation, block sunlight, and reduce gas-phase emissions. The original patent (Hexprotect®, AWTT, granted 2010) introduced the self-ballasting hexagonal geometry that became the technology category — it tessellates with near-zero gaps, dissipates wind load through tile-to-tile contact rather than anchoring, and self-fills to the design draft without continuous adjustment.
How is Hexprotect® AQUA different from generic copies? #
Hexprotect® AQUA is the AWTT-manufactured pre-ballasted variant — one-piece moulded HDPE with a taller wall, smooth dome, and no recessed surfaces. Copies typically diverge on shell thickness, plastic grade (recycled vs virgin HDPE), surface profile (pooling vs sheeting), and wall height (wind threshold). See /why-copies-fail for the engineering detail.
Who manufactures the hexagonal floating cover? #
The original Hexprotect® patent is held by AWTT (US). Hexprotect® AQUA is AWTT-manufactured at five facilities (Budapest, South Carolina, Harlingen, Mexico, Jebel Ali). Hexofloat® is manufactured by EuroCover in the EU under AWTT design approval — short EU lead times, REACH compliance. EU distribution and quotation across both variants is by EuroCover Water Systems (eurocovers.eu).
How long does a hexagonal floating cover last? #
Hexprotect® AQUA carries a 25+ year design life and a 10-year manufacturer warranty (AWTT-published). Hexofloat® carries a 15-year design life. Both variants are HDPE, UV-stabilised, and certified to operate across a −57 °C to +71 °C temperature range. The pre-ballasted geometry has no moving parts; the dominant failure mode is mechanical impact, not material fatigue.
What is the wind certification? #
Hexprotect® AQUA is certified to 130+ MPH (209+ km/h) sustained wind — verified by AWTT through field deployment and hurricane validation. Hexofloat® is certified to 75 MPH. Self-ballasting tile-to-tile interlock dissipates load without continuous anchoring; the load redistributes across the entire cover field, not concentrated at the edges as with continuous geomembrane covers.
