Hexprotect® AQUA — the pre-ballasted hexagonal pond cover

AWTT's one-piece moulded HDPE hexagonal element, pre-filled at the factory with potable water as fully-contained ballast. Each Hexprotect® AQUA tile floats independently and packs into a high-density tessellation across the water surface — anchorless, debris-shedding, and engineered for the most demanding industrial sites.

Element geometry

The element is a hexagon with a raised central dome. The dome sheds rainfall toward the seams between elements (back into the water body), prevents pooling, and dissipates wind energy. The hexagonal footprint achieves 99 % effective surface coverage when fully tessellated — higher than any other modular cover geometry.

Pre-ballasted, one-piece moulded construction

Hexprotect® AQUA replaced the open self-ballasting chamber of the original Hexprotect® with a one-piece moulded shell pre-filled with potable water at the factory. The ballast is fully contained inside the shell, so it cannot be lost when the float tips. The outer surface has no recessed areas, so debris and dirt shed naturally and the cover stays clean over time.

Material

Virgin HDPE with a UV and oxidation additive package, engineered for extended UV exposure, freeze-thaw cycling, and chemical resistance. The NSF/ANSI food-grade variant is approved for direct contact with potable water.

Wind performance

The pre-ballasted, one-piece design dissipates wind energy through controlled lateral motion of individual elements. The cover does not require anchors. Hexprotect® AQUA is certified to 130+ MPH (209+ km/h) per AWTT and can be specified hurricane-rated — the engineering improvement that distinguishes AQUA from the original (2010-patented) Hexprotect® and the reason it deploys on irregular shorelines, moving water levels, and active reservoirs.
